SO easy and quick while tasting gourmet!
I wanted maple ham but couldn’t find it so settled on honey ham for my first version. Shredded some fresh gruyère (we’re never without it at this point). A bit of salted butter to get the toasty on. And, for me, the star of the show: Schwarzwalder Dark Rye bread.

Ham & Gruyère on Rye Recipe

Ingredients
- 2 slices dark rye bread
- 2 tsp butter
- 3 oz maple (and/or honey) ham
- 1 oz shredded Gruyère cheese
Directions
- Heat griddle/skillet to medium low heat.
- Butter the outside of each bread slice w/ 1 tsp butter.
- Place 1 slice of bread (buttered side down) then layer in order on each: 3 oz maple ham then 1 oz grated Gruyère.
- Place remaining 1 slice of bread (buttered side up) on top of the shredded cheese.
- Transfer the sandwich to the griddle/skillet and cook over medium low heat, until the bottom slice of bread is golden brown and the cheese is starting to melt.
- Flip sandwich on griddle and continue cooking, until the top (now bottom) slice of bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
