This recipe can easily be scaled up for larger amounts of croutons, but (at the quantities listed below) it is enough to serve with 3 appetizer salads.

TIP: Make with your bread of choice. I’ve also used Schwarzwalder Dark Rye, and 21 Whole Grains and Seeds. All had their own special yum factor!

  • 2 oz sourdough bread, cut into 1/2″ cubes
  • 2 3/4 tsp extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)
  • 1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning (see my Nearly Italian Seasoning recipe)
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp sea salt
  • 1/16 ground black pepper
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, then set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, toss cubed 2 oz sourdough bread with 2 3/4 tsp EVOO.
  4. Add 1/2 tsp Nearly Italian Seasoning, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1/8 tsp sea salt, and 1/16 ground black pepper, then toss until well-combined.
  5. Spread seasoned sourdough cubes on prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake on top rack of oven 15 mins, until golden brown, *flipping* once halfway through.
  7. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before serving or storing (in an air-tight container for up to 1 week).
